KJ Apa’s Dating and Relationship History Leaves More Questions Than Answers

If you’re already watched The Map That Leads to You, then chances are your first question (after where are the tissues??) is: Are KJ Apa and Madelyn Cline dating IRL? The onscreen chemistry between the two actors (and tbh, the off-screen chemistry as well) is so magnetic that you might just think the two are a real-life item...and the actors aren’t doing much to dispel the rumors, either.

As KJ told Cosmo during his August 2025 interview, “I’m not going to lie, I fell in love with Madelyn on this movie in many ways that, one, are part of my job, and two, happened because she’s an amazing person. You lean into it because it’s fucking fun, and it’s life, and I like feeling great.” Okay!!

That said, a relationship between KJ and Madelyn hasn’t actually been confirmed (plus, KJ was recently linked to another blonde actress...). So who has KJ actually dated over the years? Let’s dive in.

Britt Robertson: 2019

Though the relationship was never confirmed, KJ was once rumored to be romancing his I Still Believe costar, Britt Robertson. The two first crossed paths on the set of A Dog’s Purpose in 2017, and in July 2019, they sparked dating rumors after they were spotted looking cozy at Entertainment Weekly’s Comic-Con party.

At the time, an insider at Us Weekly claimed the two actors could also be seen “leaning in and kissing each other,” but nothing else was heard about the maybe-romance after this.

Clara Berry: 2020-2024

After months of rumors, KJ went public with French model Clara Berry on Instagram in February 2020 —and just a little over a year later in May 2021, they announced that they were expecting their first child together. Their son was born in September 2021, and the following month, KJ raised eyebrows when he referred to Clara as his “wife” (!!) on Instagram.

Sadly, the two didn’t last. In February 2024, Clara broke the news during a fan Q&A on IG, telling a fan “no” when asked whether she and KJ were still together.

Michelle Randolph: 2025

Take this one with a grain of salt, because there is zero evidence supporting it...but! In August 2025, DeuxMoi responded to a fan question that asked, “You mentioned someone you thought KJ Apa was dating...who was that?” The answer: Landman star Michelle Randolph.

Again, I have no evidence of this, but I support it nevertheless!!
